Workshops
I offer a variety of workshops that I can run in homes, village halls, community spaces or, in the case of soap making, anywhere with a hob and a worktop! The workshops below are what I offer as standard, however, if you would like something tailored to you & your group, please contact me and we can work together to find your "Goldilocks" solution.
Do It Yourself Skincare
This is an all-day workshop designed for people who want to learn how to make their own skincare. It covers different product types and consists of four sections. If you attend multiple workshops, there is a discount on the overall cost
Blending for Beginners: 2.5 hours - £50
Blending essential oils is a little bit like cooking only much, much quicker! Just as if you were learning to cook, you’d likely start off following tried and true recipes, the same applies here. There will be a long list of recipes that you can try and around 50 essential oils to blend. You will be shown a technique to check whether a blend works before blending and pointed to plenty of excellent sources for new recipes.
We’ll talk about essential oil properties and research, a variety of different carrier oils and when to use them as well as the benefit of rotating products you use.
Once everyone has a basic understanding of blending, we’ll look at a range of recipes for massage oils, diffuser blends, deodorants, skin serums and aftershaves. Carrier oils, 10 and 30 ml dropper bottles and essential oils will be provided for you to create the products you want. The course cost includes making up to 5 products.
Skin Hydrators & Cleansing Balms: 1 hour - £30
Skin hydrators help your skin to absorb more moisture after cleansing. There are four different hydrosols to try and the cost includes a 30 ml sample of each.
We will also create a few cleansing balms for facial cleansing. These are applied with finger tips to the face and removed with a cloth soaked in warm water. There are a few recipes to choose from and there should be something for everyone and you'll receive a sample of each balm we make.
Simple Soaps: 1 hour - £15
We will create a soap using olive oil, caustic soda, water and essential oils. There will be a smaller range of essential oils available to choose from than in the full soap workshops, however everyone is likely to be able to find something they love. All participants will leave the workshop with a mould containing a single curing soap scented with whichever essential oil they choose.
Sophisticated Soaps: 2 hours - £30
In this workshop we will create a more advanced range of soaps using a variety of carrier and essential oils and natural powders, such as Moroccan clay and kaolin. We will start with selecting soap recipes (which can be supplied in advance to save time on the day). So that everyone can try a range of soaps, each person will be give a mould for six soaps and can take home one of each. If there is a large group, I can supply extra moulds for each attendee so that everyone has one of each.
Multi-Workshop Discounts
- The discounted price for both Blending for Beginners and Skin Hydrators and Cleansing Balms workshops is £60
- The discounted price for both soap making workshops is £40 and includes a sample of a soap from Ghana which is made with only natural ingredients (but a lot of elbow grease!)
- The price for a full day including all four workshops is £80
Extra things to think about
Times are estimated and depend on the size and nature of the group. If people have a lot of questions, we will take a lot longer (but, hopefully, learn more!). If there is only one hob for melting oils, we will be going pretty slowly. If there is an induction hob and keen students, we could potentially make 2-3 batches at a time. Ultimately, it is hard to predict how the day will go, but keen students will pick up everything they need; it's all pretty simple.
For soap making, there should be an accessible outdoor space to avoid inhalation of fumes while creating the lye. It's also helpful if there is a cool, shaded area if it's a hot day to help the melted oils and lye cool.
As I need to bring quite a bit of equipment to these workshops, ideally, it needs to be possible to park all day outside the venue. If that is not possible, I will need someone to meet me before the workshop starts to help me unload and set things up while I go and park and do the reverse at the end of the workshop.
Minimum Attendee Requirements
Workshops require a minimum of £240 total course charges (e.g. 3 all day participants) if within 150 miles of Weldon, Corby. If they are over 150 miles from Weldon, they are subject to a minimum spend of £350.
