Almost everyone knows the scent of cinnamon bark from cooking, and cinnamon leaf is very similar. It is often used in blends to help with winter coughs and colds with more typically medicinal oils like Eucalyptus and Rosemary. It's also great in Christmas themed blends with Sweet Orange, and Cloves. There's a fabulous recipe that combines these two approaches which is wonderful to use in winter - it's both uplifting and medicinal, so the perfect combination. Below is the number of drops you need for a 500ml diffuser:
- 9 drops Sweet Orange
- 7 drops Clove
- 3 drops Cinnamon Bark
- 3 drops Cinnamon Leaf
- 2 drops Eucalyptus
- 1 drops Rosemary
Diffusing this around the challenging winter period (particularly if that includes any challenging social situations you are hosting!) can help with both the harmony of the atmosphere and the management of everyone's health. I heard of one person who, when diffusing this blend, found there were none of the typical "Christmas Clashes" between relatives. While I have not personally experienced that, I know it smells great!
Another useful application of Cinnamon Leaf essential oil is for treating toenail fungus. The fungus is caused by candida albicans and symptoms include discoloration, thickening, and brittleness of the nail and sometimes the nail may also lift away from the nail bed. Cinnamon Leaf oil has been shown as able to kills this fungus and, in this study, it was found to perform better than nystatin, an antifungal medication used to treat Candida infections. I have successfully used it to treat such candida, so can confidently recommend it.
