Almost everyone associates the smell of Patchouli Essential Oil with hippies. It's heady, grounding scent reminds me of the out-of-the-way shop that sold jewelry, crystals and incense in Guildford in the 80's and 90's. However, it has many more properties than the hallmark scent of alternative communities some of which I will cover below.
Research has shown that Patchouli Essential Oil has properties meaning it could be a therapeutic or preventive agent for a variety of human diseases, including influenza, depression, gastric disorder, inflammatory intestinal diseases, and metabolic diseases.
For me, though, its primary value is in grounding and calming me in stressful times. This can be in a blend in a roller ball that I can carry around and roll-on when I feel inspired, a diffuser blend for inhaling via a diffuser at home or a body oil blend to massage into my body (or, ideally, have someone else massage in!). Here are some of my favourite recipes.
Diffuser Blends
Relaxation
This calming blend of orange, patchouli and ylang ylang in a water-based diffuser can help you chill out after a hectic day.

This recipe is perfect for a 200 ml diffuser, so you can scale it for your diffuser size.
Peace
This recipe is for a 500 ml diffuser and perfect to use whenever life gets chaotic.

Perfume Recipes
These are perfume recipes are designed to be used in 10 ml roller balls. I find adding the essential oils first works best because, when you add the carrier oil, it all mixes in.
