Peppermint Essential Oil is a stimulating oil that can be used to ease headaches and migraines when inhaled at the start of an attack. I remember a car journey of around an hour where it sat in the door of my car with the lid off so I could pick it up and inhale it. By the end of the journey the headache had eased almost to the point of being unnoticeable and it quickly disappeared soon afterwards.
Diffusing Peppermint Essential Oil has been shown to improve memory and increase alertness, so it's great to add to a diffuser to help you to focus on work or study.
Research has found Peppermint Essential Oil has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral,, antifatigue and antioxidant activities. It has also shown that it provides pharmacological protection of gastrointestinal, liver, kidney, skin, respiratory, brain and nervous systems, and exerts helps balance blood levels of sugar and fats.
It's important to remember Peppermint Essential Oil is extremely concentrated. Estimates of its potency compared with a cup of Peppermint tea, range from 25-30 cups, so consuming 4 drops is like having 100 cups of Peppermint tea (a little too many, I suspect!). I used to take Peppermint Essential Oil tablets to help with my digestion and, while they were incredibly effective, they did not address the underlying issues causing my digestive problems. I have since found other helpful techniques (such as a tablespoon of castor oil and Buteyko breathing), however, I still know that Peppermint Essential Oil can be very helpful when I experience digestive issues or headaches.
Steam Inhalation: Cough Stopper
If someone can't stop coughing this blend can be added to a bowl of hot water. The person with the cough then lowers their head over the bowl and inhales the vapours with a towel over their head to keep the water warm.
4 drops Peppermint
4 drops Lemon
2 drop Frankincense
2 drop Eucalyptus
