Tea Tree oil is one of only two oils that the IFA (International Federation of Aromatherapists) to be safe to apply directly to your skin. As they put it,

Although Tea Tree and Lavender may be applied neat to very small areas of skin as first aid remedies for insect bites, minor burns, spots etc, repeated long term application is not recommended; these oils are the exception but have equal propensity to cause skin irritation if overused.

Fine to dab on spots or an infected cut, but not daily in vast quantities.

It has been shown to be an effective antimicrobial agent (so helpful for cleaning wounds and rooms and an effective treatment for acne with few side effects.

For me, like many others, Tea Tree Essential Oil was one of the first essential oils I started using. I had problems with spots as a teenager and did not want to damage my skin by picking them. I found a small amount of Tea Tree Essential Oil applied to the spot could both calm associated irritation as well as assist in drying out the spot.

Diffuser Recipes

These blends are for a 500 ml diffuser which, generally, is the right size for a bedroom. If you have a massage room or smaller room you are using the diffuser in, scale the blend down for the volume of your diffuser.

Calming while Cleansing

Choose this blend if you need to cleanse yourself of the dysfunctions and stresses of your day; it works wonders for both.

12 drops Tea Tree

4 drop Bergamot

Clean the Room

This blend is great to clean odors in a stale room.

4 drops Tea Tree
4 drops Lemon
4 drops Peppermint
4 drops Eucalyptus

As well as these uses, it's great to apply to:

  1. Infected cuts: Soak in warm-as-you-can-handle water to open the area up and then apply Tea Tree oil. Repeat until infection disappears.
  2. Spots - Dab on when you feel a spot coming on.
  3. Toe nail fungus infections - Apply after bathing to infected area. Be aware this will take a long time to work (as long as it takes the nail to grow out) but persist and it will reward you!
